Cruising to the Gippsland Lakes and joining a Rally

Posted by Stephen Lake, Wednesday, 27th April 2016 @ 7:47pm

  • Rod Fuller writes about the Paynesville Rally and Shamrock's cruise from Williamstown to Paynesviolle and return:

"We heard from our H28 representative at Paynesville, Gippsland Lakes, that the locals were planning a classic boat rally. Rod Fuller, an H28 Association Committee member, had a ‘brain wave’ and suggested to the Committee that we should get some boats together, cruise in company to the Gippsland Lakes and participate in this Rally. That’s how it all started. The planning began during 2015. To measure the interest an outline cruise plan was prepared and publicised on the H28 Association website. A presentation was also made to the HBYC Cruising group. Antares and Kashmir showed interest as well as some H28s from Geelong."

The world's first H28 - Marloo - refurbished and on the market

Posted by Stephen Lake, Tuesday, 16th December 2014 @ 3:11pm

  • Graham Young sent me these photos of Marloo's recent refurbishment.
Marloo is the first H28 built in the world at Brighton in Victoria. The amateur builders waited for each issue of Rudder Magazine so that they could get the next installment of Herreshoff's plans.
Graham is looking to find a new owner for this beautiful yacht - his contact details are: +61 3 9592 8661 Home or +61 409 866 377 Mobile.

Melody Too located and for sale

Posted by Stephen Lake, Tuesday, 16th December 2014 @ 2:09pm

  • Ever wondered which boat was featured in the Ross' painting that the H28 Association use as it's logo?

The boat is called Melody Too and was built in the 1950's by Savages at Williamstown.  The hull is New Zealand Kauri.

About 2 years ago I gave up on finding Melody Too - I knew it was in South Australia but there the trail went dead.

This morning through Google alerts I found an advertisement on Gumtree and spoke with Mike McLeish whose family has owned the boat since it was built.

Mike is working overseas a lot and is looking for the right person to buy Melody Too and look after her.

    The price is exceptional.

    If you are interested call Mike on +61 411 845 290 Mobile or +61 8 8379 2950 Home.
