Clarity II is a Compass Yachts NZ built GRP H28. She left the factory approximately 1980 as a hull and deck and was fitted out by the first owner and launched 1982. She has been an Auckland boat for the most part that I am aware of. Her port of registry is now Brisbane but calls Tin Can Bay in the Great Sandy Straits home.
Purchased in Auckland in May 2009 she was prepared for a Tasman crossing over 3 x 2 week trips from Australia. In November at the end of the third trip she was sailed up the coast to Opua in the Bay of Islands where final preparations were completed. A week later, on the beginnings of a high in the bight, Clarity and I cleared customs and left Opua. After an enjoyable sail, lasting 14 days and approximately 1300nm, we made landfall in Brisbane. During the passage we were becalmed for 2 days (motored for 8 hrs), and were hove to for 2 days with 25-30km NW headwinds. Since then she has sailed mainly between Moreton Bay and Bundaberg with one trip to Yeppoon.
She is sloop rigged with a removable inner forestay for the storm jib. Aries windvane, radar, powered by a 26hp Sole diesel. Strengthened compression bulkhead with a mast compression post added.
